Private Service: Definition, Duties & Jobs

life in private service
What is a Private Service Professional? Here is our definition of the term: PSPs provide service for celebrities, high-net-worth families, and billionaires inside of their private estates. Those occupations take on many different forms: Personal assistant, Butler, Housekeeper, Nanny, Gardener, Estate manager, Governess, Domestic Couple, and even Private Security (aka Close protection or Executive protection).

Essentially, private service professionals (PSPs) fall under the hospitality category. Any job that would exist at a 5-star hotel also exists in private service, except that you're working for UHNW families and heads of state.

What does private service in an estate look like?

Private service in a household (i.e., estate, mansion, manor, or castle) should mimic the standards you would find in luxury hotels. Each "principal" or head of the household will decide how formal the environment should be. For example, many high-net-worth families in the United States are modeling their formal households as they would in Europe, so that means employing butlers who wear white gloves.

Do candidates in private service wear uniforms?

Again, if the Chief of Staff or head of the household says that it is required, then staff will wear uniforms. Those roles could include butlers, maids, gardeners, and drivers. Close Protection Agents and those in Estate Management won't have a uniform per se but will be dressed up in a suit and tie.

How do domestic staffing agencies help private service professionals?

recruitment for private serviceStaffing agents help PSPs get jobs
Domestic staffing agencies like The Celebrity Personal Assistant Network play an important role in the placement of PSPs in private estates.

These placements in households are not typically known to the general public because high-net-worth families are very secretive about who they employ.

Staffing agents (i.e., recruiters and headhunters) have a lot of experience in this area and some like our founder Brian Daniel have been in the roles themselves, so they understand the nuance of private service.

What type of services do PSPs employ?

The list is endless. The additional jobs that private service professionals do includes but is not limited to yoga, personal training, tutoring, and any other job that would be relevant to the employer running the estate.

Because each household is completely unique, it's up to the recruiter to search for staff based on the Chief of Staff's job descriptions. Headhunters will find staff with related experience and sometimes take them from the public sector and move them into private service.

Those in private service need resources

One of the biggest challenges that private service professionals face is meeting the demands of the role. PSPs must cater to the whims of the super-rich, even if that means the employer wants to have dinner on an iceberg.

Those with many years of experience in private service often have a robust "black book" of vendors that help support the lifestyle of the celebrity or high-net-worth individual they work for. Just some of those vendors include private jets and elite concierge services who work with billionaires and CEOs.

How does a recruitment company in private service find staff?

Just like the private service professionals themselves have a "black book," so do the agents in a staff placement agency. The recruiters are connected worldwide and are not bound by any one location, like in the past. The agent's network supports the connecting of PSPs that was not previously possible; but because of the internet, the internal workings of agencies are more sophisticated in 2025.

Because the network of an elite recruiter is so secret, those in private service are often asked to sign an NDA: Non-Disclosure Agreement and are sworn to secrecy. It's part of the code of ethics in private service: Never speak about what you see or hear.

What's it like for a PSP to work for a celebrity or billionaire?

Having access to the ultra-rich is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If those in private service have contact with an ultra-high net worth family, using a confidentiality agreement will follow a background check and also requires additional steps like a driving record review.

When all of the paperwork is done for the first time, it can seem overwhelming, but those in private service become accustomed to it. The information available on Google about what these contracts look like is scarce and it's a sort of Illuminati code with all of the secrecy.

How can I become a private service professional?

For those who want a glimpse into the secret world, then celebrity assistant Brian Daniel has a lot of content to offer on his website. Brian is top of the list when it comes to research and www.FindCelebrityJobs.com is a great place to start if you want to get ahead. The site offers next steps to use but is primarily in English. New content on the site appears each week. There are no details at this time of the content will be offered in another language.

PSPs can connect with The Celebrity Personal Assistant Network and create a relationship with the agents because they have access to the top jobs in private service. If you are chosen for an interview, the recruiters can address any concerns you might have about the profession.

Societies for Private Service Professionals

There are many clubs, societies, organizations, and coalitions for private service professionals. Some of these organizations are like a modern-day Illuminati, Freemasons, or Skull and Bones society. Most of them require an invite, application, and dues. If you would like to join The Celebrity Personal Assistant Network's newsletter, there is no charge. Further, CPAN has unlimited free resources on their sitemap.
