Vetting personal assistants before hiring is critical
In yet another example of what can happen if you hire the wrong assistant, this CEO's PA helped herself to $350,000 that didn't belong to her.
At a Singaporean interior design company, one personal assistant was given too much responsibility too soon. Ms. Hameed absconded with $350K, transferring the funds from the company's bank account to hers.
On Monday, she was found guilty and sentenced to more than two years in jail. This is yet another cautionary tale of what can happen if the right person isn't hired for the job.

How should a company verify a personal assistant?
When hiring a personal assistant, especially one that will have access to a lot of cash and credit, background checks should be used. Additionally, hiring a personal assistant with the right "pedigree" is important. For example, if an assistant has 10 years of experience, outstanding recommendations from previous employers, and passes a background check, that is pretty much the "gold standard" for hiring an employee.
