The client is currently seeking an experienced Yacht Captain to join a newly built 50m private yacht, currently under construction in Livorno/Italy.
The yacht is expected to be completed by January 2025, then kept in Mediterranean waters for 6-12 months, before being moved to Dubai.
The Captain will ideally start around August (although an earlier start can be discussed), and will conduct regular visits to the shipyard to familiarize themselves with the vessel.
The successful candidate has to have experience leading yachts of this same size (50m) or larger – non negotiable.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the Mediterranean waters, as well as in the Gulf. Having crossed the Suez Canal is also seen as an advantage.
Flexibility, loyalty, great organization and communication skills are paramount.
Besides fluency in English, which is essential, Italian speakers who also have an established network of local vendors/suppliers will hold a great advantage.
The Captain, in fact, will assist with the necessary purchase of equipment/materials during the construction phase.
Candidates who are already located in Italy would be preferred.
Ultimately, the Captain will ensure the Principal is well looked after, from the minute the family arrives to when they leave.
EU passport holders are preferred, for operational reasons. However, Asian candidates will be considered too.

Salary ranging from EUR 7,500-9,000,00 NET (DOE)

- Familiarizing yourself with the vessel, making regular trips to the shipyard in Livorno
- Assisting with the purchase of equipment/materials
- Hiring of the crew, once closer to the launch
- Full management of the yacht and its navigation for all trips
- Taking full responsibility over vessel, passengers and crew
- Work closely with the Stews to ensure service is 5* service at all times

Ideal candidate:
- Experience in yacht size equivalent (50m) or bigger (a must)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Excellent leadership mindset and skills
- Safe and competent navigational and ship handling skills
- Ability to remain calm and give directions in an emergency situation
- Extensive experience in the Mediterranean as well as in the Gulf waters
- Language requirements: English (essential), Italian (an advantage)
- Ideally, we seek a candidate located in Italy already
- Network of local trusted vendors/suppliers
- STCW fully updated
- PDSD Seafarer’s Medical Certificate
- Discretion & flexibility is paramount
