Laurence Fishburne's personal assistant says she was wrongfully terminated
The celebrity assistant to actor Laurence Fishburne says that she was unjustly terminated because she was single and pregnant, something she says Fishburne didn't approve of; so, she filed a suit against him for it.
"Of course I can't speak to this situation because I have no first-hand knowledge of the matter," says Brian Daniel of The Celebrity Personal Assistant Network -- a firm that specializes in matching assistants with celebrities, "but I have seen situations like this before. Celebrities hire assistants, and it's typically very informal. Not only is there no contract, the PAs are often paid in cash. On top of that, the celebrity employers are often completely oblivious to the employment laws, so it's a formula for disaster."
The takeaway is simple: If you are going to hire domestic staff, consult with a domestic staffing agency and a lawyer that specializes in employment laws for the state you live in.
