Butler Boot Camp is a colloquial term coined by CNBC wealth reporter Robert Frank in his book titled "Richistan" (2008).
Because of the wealth boom in the 21st century, Frank dedicates the first chapter of his book to the need for modern-day butlers (AKA Household Managers) to run the households of billionaires.

Butler Boot Camp actually refers to Starkey International Institute, which was a former school for Household Managers and Butlers to learn about becoming a Private Service Professional. The school is now permanently closed, but it was located in Denver, Colorado.
Essentially, the explosion of the super-rich in the United States perfectly coincided with the release of the hit TV show, Downton Abbey. As a result, Starkey was able to "ride the wave" and capitalize on the success and intrigue of the private service industry.

Starkey International Institute was founded by Mary Louise Starkey, and all of the curriculum was developed by her.
Although there are a dozen books written by Mary, the most well-known is The Original Guide to Private Service Management, which is almost 700 pages in length and is no longer in print.
