What is a mother's helper?

In this post, we are going to define a "mother's helper." But before we do that, it's important to note that not everyone in the domestic staffing community (or those in private service) agree on job titles and duties. 

Mother's helper defined

In short, a Mother's Helper does everything that a mom would do in the household: cooking, cleaning, errands, and caring for the children.

Other titles used

Other private service professionals or estate manager may use different titles for a mother's helper. They include but are not limited to:

• Mommy Assistant
• Family Assistant
• Mommy's Helper
• Nanny or au pair
• ​Personal Assistant

Be advised that many households are now blending roles together (hybrid jobs). We advise families to be careful with giving too many responsibilities to one person because the quality of the work is reduced, and a mommy's helper can become burned out.
