Truthfully, we haven't read the book (yet), but is seems to be a coordinated effort between Conan and his assistant to poke fun at themselves. In a recent article by Insider, it tells of anecdotes of how to watch movies without your coworkers knowing or even how to sleep on the job. So, in short, it's very tongue in cheek.
